Gaya finds its mention in various Hindu mythological epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. It is said that Ram, Sita along with Lakshman has offered Pind-Daan to their father Dasharath in Gaya. As per Hindu religion, the place is imperative for Hindus, as they perform the much-sacred ritual of Pind-Dan of their beloved ones. The ritual is performed after the death of the person for the salivation of his/her soul. It is said that after death the human soul still do not free itself from the materialistic world. To detach the soul Pind Daan of a person is done. It is mandatory and an obligation for all devout Hindus. Gaya is mention in various Hindu epics, in which it is said that by performing Pind-Daan here, the person’s soul would attain the salivation. The city is also worshipped among Jains and Buddhists.
